Everyone has the right to learn Danish

From the day a newly arrived receive their CPR number and residence permit; they also have the right to learn Danish at a language school for the following 5 years for free.

Some students, e.g. international employees, accompanying spouses and students, also receive six time-limited vouchers from the municipality. The time limit of the vouchers corresponds to a maximum of 3.5 years (42 months) of Danish Education, thus making it possible to take breaks during the 3.5 years and still finish within the 5-year period. These students will receive a referral letter in their “e-Boks” regarding this issue.

We urge, however, all newcomers to contact the language school and give notice whether or not they want to start within 2 months after receiving the CPR number. Failing to react to the referral letter means that the voucher time will start automatically, and gradually valuable modules will be lost. Consequently, 3.5 years later there is a risk that there is no Danish Education right left.

Students with a voucher may join a Danish course after paying a deposit of DKK 2.000. When passing a module test within the time limits given, you get the choice between having the deposit reimbursed or reinvesting the same money into the next deposit and the next module. If you do not complete the module within the nominated time frame, you will lose your entire deposit of DKK 2.000, and you will be required to pay a new deposit if you want to attend Danish lessons again. The same rule applies for those who drop out of classes, stop attending, have many absence hours or do not pass the module test or exam after the final module.

Learning Danish in Kolding

The public language school in Kolding, Sprogskolen Kolding, provides Danish lessons for adult learners of Danish as a second language. The school is placed in the heart of Kolding close to the major educational institutions. The language school students are categorized into Danish Education 1, 2 or 3 depending on educational and linguistic background and depending on time available for language learning. Each Danish Education consists of six modules (the sixth level of Danish Education 3 is optional). When finishing the final module (Prøve i Dansk 1, 2, 3 or Studieprøven) you will get a diploma officially stating your Danish level.

The levels of the different modules are described according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (to the right).

Sprogskolen Kolding offers lessons in the morning (starting at 8 am 3 days a week), evening (5:30-8 pm two evenings a week) and Saturdays (after A1-level).

We do ongoing intake meaning that you can start and finish at any time.
The language school only employs qualified and experienced teachers who are professional, friendly and dedicated. All of our teachers have a degree from recognised universities or teachers' training colleges and specialist qualifications in teaching Danish as a second language to adult learners from different language backgrounds.
